Weight is similarly a problem with stone, and stone (and terracotta for that matter) is far more likely to crack at the first sign of frost. In the past, the downside of fibreglass was that it was hard to replicate the aesthetic appearance of these traditional materials without the result looking like a fixture of a tacky theme park. However, developments in fibreglass manufacturing now allow us to manufacture imitation items that are in all ways indistinguishable from the items they are imitating – without lifting or otherwise subjecting them to a rigorous physical examination. In addition to being lightweight, they are also resistant to ultraviolet light (preventing bleaching) and far less likely to suffer the adverse effects of tempestuous weather than their counterparts. It is for this reason, that it is in many ways a smart material, that the majority of our products by some margin are made from fibreglass.

Corten Steel weathering – how it works:

  1. Please Note: Corten products can arrive at any stage of weathering. We cannot guarantee what level they will be or even if multiple items ordered at the same time will all be at the same level. Unweathered areas of your stairs will be the colour of freshly manufactured steel, with a dark oily coating.
  2. As your Corten Steel stairs begin to weather, the oily residue will break down.
  3. Your stairs will begin to change gradually to uniform orange-brown. Please be aware that ‘run-off’ may stain stone or concrete surfaces and bear this in mind when deciding where to place your stairs.
  4. After 9 months, your stairs should be almost entirely rust-coloured. Please be aware that run-off may still occur for several months after the uniform rust colour has been achieved.

Double the height of a normal trough, it is far easier and much faster to create a natural wall than it would be with your average trough. The reality of modern living is that if we find ourselves in homes that have any outdoor space, they are far from private and tranquil. We wouldn’t tolerate living in houses with only glass walls to separate us from our neighbours, so why do we tolerate it in our gardens? Further to this, unlike a wall or a fence, a garden planter is a non-permanent and non-offensive way of creating a screen. However, these ‘natural walls’ are not only suited to ensuring your privacy but the can also be used elsewhere in your garden to create structure or sustain meaningful divisions. This is particularly important in very large gardens or garden spaces that are oddly wide or elongated.
